Have you ever thought about why you are gaining a lot of weight despite a healthy lifestyle ? It might not be the case for you, but for others it is.

Our weight depends mainly on our genes. However, some others factors control our weight. From the age of 20 to 60 years old we take on about ten kilos. Some people gain more than the average and some gain less weight. Even though eating healthy,  some people have a problem with losing weight.

Do you want to know the reason why ?

Here are some of the main reasons why you are gaining a lot of weight, and why you don’t lose much weight despite working out and eating healthy.

1. Low metabolism.

If you have been gaining weight since your youth, it means that your metabolism is lower than average. It’s totally natural and normal, you need to accept it. However, following a diet or eating healthy is very important in this case. Working out, running, jogging are the best activities to maintain a normal weight and not becoming an overweight.

2. Age.

Another obvious fact is age. Most of people gain the average of 10 kilos between the age of 25 and 50 except one fifth of the population. The cause is the difference in what we eat and how we spend our lives. Usually men lose weight easily than women, but the striking thing is that men are often overweight. Statistics indicate that 60% of men between the age of 30 and 54, are overweight while 40% of  females in the same age group are overweight.

3. Diets.

Dr. Jean-Philippe Zermati, an expert nutritionist, says the diets make us believe that once we have thinned, we can go to the stabilization phase and bring back the good things we had dismissed during the weaning period, which eventually lead us to start a harsh diet. Therefore, it becomes possible to break with old habits.

The diet becomes a decoy to bring back bad eating habits. Once we are deprived of the food we used to eat, we will use this as an excuse to eat excessively This is why 95% of the diet fail to give positive results.

4. Hormones.

According to Dr.Juliane Berdah , a gynecologist, epidemiological studies show that weight gain in women is regular between 20 and 60 years without peak weight in their fifties. This is why hormones are accused of making people fat.

Before and during the menopause, the fall of estrogen cause the silhouette to change. However, It is possible to grow if these physiological upheavals are accompanied by psychological disturbances. The departure of the children and the stress can push to compensate by eating.

5. Stress and depression.

What causes weight gain is often psychological. Food is one of the ways to forget about problems and reduce stress. It is obvious to gain weight when you eat to push away your loneliness, sadness and depression. You can follow some these tips to avoid falling in this trap.

Think well before going to grab food. Identify what makes you depressed.

Eat mindfully and slowly.

Whenever stress comes and you want to eat to reduce it, meditate, take a walk or do some yoga.

6. Bad sleeping habits.

The lack of sleep is one of the factor of excessive eating. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body craves energy-rich foods. A  4 year study was conducted in Japan, showed that workers who slept less than 6 hours a night, consumed more fat-rich foods and ate often outdoors. On the contrary, those who slept 7 to 9 hours did the opposite of the first group. Workers with lack of sleep, tended to skip breakfast and nibble during the day.

Managing your sleep is important to reduce weight gain. Try to read about good sleeping habits and apply as much as you can.
